The golden rule
Drink plenty of water for at least 48 hours before treatment. Hyalauronic acid bonds to water. If you are dehydrated the treatment will be less effective as the hyalauronic acid will disperse to where it is most needed in the body.
- Avoid dehydrating substances such as alcohol and caffeine 48hrs before.
- Avoid using medication which thins the blood at least 48hrs before treatment (eg Wharfarin or Aspirin) and anti-inflamatories such as Ibuprofen, but do not cease prescribed medicines unless a doctor has advised you to do so.
- Do not have treatments such as electrolysis, waxing or bleaching in the area for at least 72hrs prior and do not use products that sensitise the skin such as retinol or glycolic acid.
- Avoid treatments causing extreme heat (eg Sauna) for 72hrs before.
- If you have ever had a coldsore ensure you start taking medication for this at least 48hrs prior to treatment and continue during the healing process.
- If you have a tendancy towards bruising you can start taking arnica tablets 48hrs before treatment and during the healing process.
